Another celebration of the Europe Day is over. On this occasion we organized a European Information Point, Simulation of European Parliaments` Assembly and the European City Game on 9th May.
Students of secondary schools will take part in the simulation of assembly of the European Parliament which will be held in the Lublin City Hall (City Council Debating Chamber).
The purpose of the simulation is spreading knowledge about the structure and functioning of the European Union, and especially the European Parliament, and developing the skills of discussion, rhetoric and argumentation of young people.
The prize is a trip to the European Parliament, founded by prof. Lena Kolarska-Bobińska.
This year following topics will be discussed:
- EU Financial Perspective for the years 2014 - 2020
- Youth unemployment in European Union
- If and when the EU enlargement to the Balkans?
Jury decided to award with the first prize the Fraction Europe of Freedom and Democracy. Second prize took the Group of European Conservatives and Reformists and the third prize went to the Confederal Group of European United Left / Nordic Green Left. All participants received prices form organizers. There were also 4 individual special prizes. It is worth noting the high level of discussion and preparation of students for the debate. In large part this is due to teachers who also were awarded.
For younger pupils we prepared a city game.
The game took place in the Centre of Lublin. Its participants had to find answers to questions concerning European issues connected to our city. With this aim, teams had to visit institutions, find places, gather stamps and talk with some people.
This year the route was longer, it contained 17 places to visit f.e. buildings renewed with support of European Union such as: Cathedral, Collegium Medicum, Holy Trinity Chapel, Cracow Gate and Old Theatre. Participants of the game also visited the Department of European Funds of the City Hall. They also found answers to questions about streets renewed from European funds.
In the game participated six 5-persons teams accompanied by a teacher. Each team found answers to all questions for what they got prizes. Even if it was not important who will be on the meta first, all teams were running to reach the final place as first.
For inhabitants of Lublin and Lubelskie Region we organized an information point where they could get some information about the European Union, get informational materials about EU and take part in a raffle. The point had place close to Lublin City Hall at Plac Łokietka. At noon we were giving yellow flowers and blue balloons to people who visited the information point at this time. The information point was also accompanied by: Sirius – a mascot of EU and a Lublin Goat who were giving flowers and balloons with support of volunteers.
It is worth noting that within the celebration of the Europe Day the first weekend after the May 9 (11-13 May 2012, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) Lublin inhabitants and its visitors can taste national and regional cuisine from other European countries. Chefs prepare dishes from three partner cities of Lublin: Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine), Nancy (France) and Münster (Germany). Ukrainian cuisine can be tasted at restaurant Magia (Rybna Street 1), French cuisine in Kardamom (Krakowskie Przedmieście Street 41), German cuisine at Czarny Tulipan (Grodzka Street 1). These restaurants belong to the "Place of inspiration" programme and are partners of the "Tastes of the twin cities."
