European Meeting Centre – Nowy Staw Founadation, Regional Centre of European Information in Lublin and Europe Direct – Lublin Point, with cooperation with Council City of Lublin, had organized the Europe Day Celebration. The ceremony was opened by the simulation of European Parliament’s debate. The overall aim of this event was: the celebration of 5th Anniversary of Polish Accession to the European Union, propagation of EU knowledge – the structure and working process of the European Union main bodies, especially of the European Parliament. Mainly, the organizers would like to introduce to the youth practical skills of argumentation, rhetoric and discussion’s conducting.
The debate was devoted to youth policy In the aspect of opportunities, challenges and barriers caused by realization of main assumptions of EU youth policy in Lublin Region. Four topics were emphasized so that the young participants of the debate were able to discuss actively: education, mobility, job and local youth activity. The Euro representatives from different parliament fractions notified few crucial points and voting proposals during the debate, for instance: the project of “education pockets” – the central donations for individual education paths on medium levels of public schools, or the project of tax reduction for entrepreneurs employing the youth seasonally.
Afterwards, the schoolchildren from primary and high schools and the members of the European School Clubs from Lublin Region gathered together and forms the colorful pageant from Lublin Castle to Lublin City Hall. Besides, during the celebration the participants and surrounding observers could take part in the multiple choice of different and curious playing contests like:
Europe Day Celebration 2009 had been closed by official concert in Basilica of the Holy Cross, Dominican Order Lublin in the Old Town.
Besides, during the whole European week (May 4 and May 9, 2009) the European Union information point ‘European tent’ had been working all the time in the town centre. The European Meeting Centre – Nowy Staw Foundation’s workers and volunteers had been working and informing all interested passers-by about the EU structure, functions and programs, especially the ESF donations for Polish entrepreneurs. The foundation’s staff was trying to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of Polish 5-years memberships in the European Union and encourage the Lublin citizenship to take part actively in the EP voting as well.
